He drove out of the gate and down the lane.

他把车开出院门，开上小路。

“May we come too?” said the children.

"May we?" said the rabbit, the cat, the dog, the pig, the sheep, the chickens, the calf and the goat. 4 r, L( p) K8 G7 w9 }- N

" All right," said Mr Gumpy.

"But it wil be a squash."

For a while they drove along happily. The sun shone, the engine chugged and everyone was enjoying the ride.

大家坐在车上，高高兴兴地走了一阵。阳光明媚。车子咔啦咔啦地走着。大家玩得很开心。

Mr Gumpy stopped the car. He jumped out, put up the hood, and down came the rain. % g9 e L4 p6 H, n9 h; s

甘伯伯停了车，跳到车外，把车篷架好，雨跟着就下起来了。

The road grew muddier, and muddier, and the wheels began to spin.

"Some of you will have to get out and push," he said.

甘伯伯看着前面的小山，对大家说：“看样子你们当中要有几个下去推车才行。”

“Not us，”said the chickens.“We can't push.”

汽车陷进烂泥里，动都不能动。

大家只好全部下去推车了。

They pushed and shoved and heaved and strained and gasped and shipped and slithered and squelched.

Slowly the car began to move... $ L5 {" ^: H' }
* Q3 @/ y/ T3 g/ W"Don't stop." cried Mr Gumpy. "Keep it up! We're nearly there." + F: `$ \5 ~, b7 e4 B2 g2 Z. i

Everyone gave a mighty heave the tyres gripped... * P, [- |7 `, x" s
; ?% w6 k6 j/ w9 ]. M* ?& E大家推啊，顶啊，抬啊，抗啊，喘大气的喘大气，打滑的打滑，东倒西歪，呼哧呼哧地踩着烂泥。 $ B* R6 [. {" L. E$ T) d7 w
& \! @3 J3 v1 M8 i" I# S( n好不容易，汽车向前挪了一步。 + W- K/ S" t+ _! U: K0 R
% ~1 Y* p& }$ I( H3 X6 |- E甘伯伯大叫：“别放松！再往前推，我们快成功了。”

大家用尽全力一推，车轮爬上了硬地。

"We'll drive home across the bridge," said Mr Gumpy.

甘伯伯说：“过了桥就到家了，大家可以好好洗个澡。”
