背景：

这首童谣的起源众说纷纭。在18世纪的英文俚语中，把又矮又胖的人叫做 humpty dumpty。一般认为 Humpty Dumpty 是一个谜语，谜底是蛋。因为谜底众所周知，在各种插画里 Humpty Dumpty 总是以一个拟人化的鸡蛋的形象出场，于是Humpty Dumpty 被称为矮胖子，或者蛋头先生。还有一种说法是 Humpty Dumpty 是影射英格兰国王理查三世，传说中他跛脚驼背，在波斯沃之役中战死沙场（had a great fall）。
