《 Stanley》

斯坦利

A long time ago

there were no houses and people lived in caves.

很久以前,

人们是住在山洞里而不是房子里。

Stanley lived in a cave, but he did not like it.

斯坦利就住在一个山洞里,但并不喜欢它。

The cave was cold. So Stanley was cold.

山洞冷的时候,斯坦利就很冷 。

4 i  ^' o. U  X$ v! h5 r

His head hurt because

he had to sleep with it on arock.

他的头不舒服,因为他只能枕着石头睡觉。

Bats flew around as though they owned the place.

蝙蝠在山洞里飞来飞去,就好像这里是属于它们的。

“Why can't we find a better way

to live?” asked Stanley.

为什么我买不能找到一个更好的地方住?”斯坦利问道。

“This is good enough for us,”

Said the other cavemen.  

"Why isn't it good enough for you?"

“对我们来说,这里已经足够好了” 一个山洞人说。

The cavemen carried clubs .

They were very tough.

山洞人们都带着棍棒。

他们都很粗暴。

Stanley was tough ,too.

斯坦利也很粗暴。

But he liked to plant seeds

in the ground and watch them grow.

但是他喜欢在地里种上种子,看着它们长大。

He liked to paint pictures.

他喜欢画画。

He liked to te nice to people.

他对其他人很友善。

He was kind to animals.

他也很善待动物。

The other cavemen did not  

want Stanley to act this way.

"Can t you act more like a caveman ?"they asked.

其他山洞人不喜欢斯坦利这样做。

“你不能像个山洞人那样做事吗?”它们问。

Stanley did not anwer.  

He went on planting seeds and painting pictures.

斯坦利不回答。

他继续种东西和画画。

He went on being kind to

animals and nice to people.

他继续善待动物和对他人友善。

He even started saying things like “please,

”and “thank you,”and “lovely day today, isn t it?”

他甚至开始说些这样的话“请、谢谢”,

“多好的一天啊,是吗?

This made the other cavemen very angry.

“You can t live here ,”they said.

“Beat it!”

这使其他山洞人很恼火。

“你不能住在这里”它们说。

“揍他!”

They threw rocks at Stanley and chased him away .

它们向斯坦利扔石头,把他赶跑了 。

"We're sorry you lost your cave," said the animals.
" {/ l2 g. t/ o6 r4 a) R* H"I don't care," said Stanley."

It was cold anyway."

“对于你失去了你的山洞,我们很遗憾”动物们说。

“我不在乎”斯坦利说。

“山洞其实很冷。”

He looked for a place to live.2 t6 o+ _( V+ \
"You can't live in
a nest," said the birds.

他要去到一个地方居住。

“你不能住在鸟巢里”鸟们说。

“you can t live in the water ," said the fish.

“你不能住在水里”鱼说 。

“you can t live in the ground ," said a worm.

“你不能生活在地下”蚯蚓说 。

“Maybe I can live in a tree,” said stanley .

“也许我能只在一棵树上”斯坦利说。

0 f. Z. U% |: q. b  S3 A( x$ b

“Not while I m up here,” said an ape .

“当我不在树上的时候”一只猿猴说。

“Maybe I can live in space,” said Stanley.

He jumped off a rock.

“也许我能住在太空”斯坦利说。

他从一块石头上跳下。

“Ouch!”said Stanley.  

“I can t live in space!”

“哦”斯坦利说。

“我不能住在太空中。”

Stanley saw a field.

“Does any body mind if I live here?” he asked.   

斯坦利看到一个地方,

“有人介意我住在这里吗?”他问。

"I don't mind if you don't snore." said an animal.

Who was going to sleep.

“如果你不打鼾的话,我不介意”一个动物说。

它正准备睡觉。

"I don't mind if you don't eat too much grass,"

said an animal who was eating .

“如果你不吃太多的草,我不介意,”

一个正吃草的动物说。

“I  don't mind if you don t take up too much room,”

said a very, very big animal.

“如果你不占很多空间的话,我不介意”,

一只体型很大的动物说。

/ ~# N- w& g! G

Stanley made himself at home.

“This is not bad,”he said.

斯坦利待在自己家里。

“这儿没有床”他说 。

But suddenly the wind blew and Stanley was cold.

The rain fell and he was wet.

但是突然刮起风来了,斯坦利感到很冷。

下起雨来了,他全身湿透了。

"This is worse than the cave,"said Stanley.

He made walls to keep out the wind.

这比在山洞里更糟”斯坦利说。

他开始修墙来挡风。

He made a roof to keep out the rain.

他搭起房顶来挡雨。

He made a door, windows and chimney.

He made a house !

他做了一个门,和窗户、烟囱。

他造好了一座房子!

“That's the first house I ever saw,”

said a field mouse.

“这是我看到的第一所房子”一只地鼠说。

“It's  the first one Iever made,” said Stanley.   

“Won't you stay here and live with me ?”

“这是我盖的第一所房子”斯坦利说,

“你愿意住在这里和我作伴吗?”

"I can't. I belong in the field.

But I will come and visit you

from time to time," said the field mouse.

“不行,我属于土地。

但是我会经常来拜访你的”地鼠说。

Stanley painted pictures.

斯坦利又开始画画了。

He planted seeds in the ground

and watched them grow.

他种上植物的种子,看着他们长大。

He loved his house .But he was lonesome.

“I wonder how my friends are,” he said.

他喜欢他的房子。但他很寂寞。

The cavemen were out hunting for animals .

They carried their clubs.

山洞人们出去狩猎。

他们带着他们的棍棒。

“Look who's after us with their silly clubs ,”

said the animals.

“Let s chase them out of here.”

看看谁和这些愚蠢的棍棒在一起,这些动物说。

让我们把他们从这里赶走。

They chased the cavemen .

Stanley saw the cavemen running.

他们追赶山顶洞人。

斯坦利看到山顶洞人在跑。

“Don t be afraid,” he said .

“I won't let them hurt you.”

不要害怕,我不会让他们伤害你们的。

He made the animals go away.

他让动物们离开了 。

“You saved us , Stanley,” said the cavemen .

“Thank you.”

He loved his house .But he was lonesome.

“I wonder how my friends are,” he said.

他喜欢他的房子。但他很寂寞。

“我想知道我朋友们的看法”他说。

The cavemen were out hunting for animals .

Stanley saw the cavemen running.

“Don t be afraid,” he said .

“I won't let them hurt you.”

He made the animals go away.

他让动物们离开了 。

“You saved us , Stanley,” said the cavemen .

“Thank you.”

“你救了我们”,这些山顶洞人说,

“谢谢你。”

Come back and live in our cave,” said one caveman.

“回来跟我们一起住在山洞里”山顶洞人说。

“Caves are old-fashioned,”said Stanley.

“Come and see where I live.”

洞穴过时了,来看看我住的地方。

He showed them his house.

他给他们展示了他住的房子。

3 f6 C4 x3 U- w9 s1 x3 p; F

“A cave is for bears.

A house is for people,” said Stanley.  

“洞穴是给熊住的。

房子是人住的。”斯坦利说。

“You are right ,Stanley,” said the cavemen.  

“This is the way we want to live.”  

“你是对的斯坦利,”山顶洞人说,

“这是我们想要的生活方式。”

They all made houses.

Stanley showed them how to

paint pictures and plant seeds.

He showed them how to be nice

to each other and kind to animals ,

and everybody was happy.

他教他们如何需要彼此善待动物。
